Welcome to the Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands are a place where nature feels both powerful and intimate. Steep green cliffs rise from the sea, waterfalls tumble into the ocean, and weather shifts by the hour. Scattered across a remote stretch of the North Atlantic, the 18 islands offer a sense of quiet and simplicity that’s increasingly rare. Life here is deeply connected to the land and sea, shaped by generations of tradition and resilience. Yet beyond the landscapes, it’s the people who leave the deepest impression: Warm, thoughtful, and proud of their culture. Traveling here isn’t about checking boxes; it’s about slowing down, taking it in, and experiencing a place that invites both reflection and discovery.
About This Journey
Set in the remote North Atlantic, this small group journey to the Faroe Islands invites you into a deeper kind of travel — one rooted in connection, curiosity, and quiet discovery. Dramatic cliffs rise from the sea, waterfalls spill into the ocean, and weather shifts by the hour, shaping both the landscape and the rhythm of life. But it is the people of the Faroes who will bring this place fully into focus.
Throughout the journey, we’ll spend time with a remarkable range of locals — professors, politicians, farmers, fishermen, and artists — each offering their own lens into the islands’ history, culture, and evolving identity. These are not staged encounters, but genuine conversations that reveal what it means to live in a place both deeply traditional and quietly forward-looking.
Privately guided experiences will lead us through villages, along windswept trails, and into everyday spaces, while unstructured time allows for rest, reflection, and personal exploration. There will be moments to linger over meals, in conversation, or simply in the presence of the landscape.
Guiding this experience is author Kent Nerburn, whose thoughtful, story-driven approach invites us to look beyond what we see and engage more meaningfully with what we feel and learn. This is a journey not just to a place, but into it; an opportunity to experience the Faroe Islands with depth, intention, and a sense of shared discovery.
Your Guide for this Journey: Kent Nerburn
Kent Nerburn is an author, educator, and storyteller whose work explores the intersections of culture, spirituality, and human connection. Best known for his thoughtful and deeply reflective writing, he has spent much of his career seeking to understand how people make meaning of their lives, and how stories, landscapes, and relationships shape that understanding.
His books, including Neither Wolf nor Dog and The Girl Who Sang to the Buffalo, have been widely praised for their quiet wisdom and their ability to bridge cultural divides, particularly through his long-standing relationships within Native American communities. With a background in theology and art, Kent brings a multidisciplinary lens to his work, blending intellectual curiosity with a profound respect for lived experience.
As a guide and facilitator, Kent is less interested in delivering answers than in asking meaningful questions, inviting others to slow down, listen closely, and engage more deeply with the world around them. His presence transforms travel into something more than observation; it becomes a shared exploration of place, story, and self.
On this journey, Kent offers not just insight but perspective, helping travelers move beyond surface-level experience and into something more reflective, more human, and ultimately, more lasting.

Logistics & Frequently Asked Questions
Below are a handful of the most common questions we get about this Journey. If you have any other questions, feel free to send us a message by clicking the button below.
-
Our strong recommendation: Fly Atlantic Airways, the national airline of the Faroe Islands. They have daily flights from Copenhagen (CPH) as well as connecting flights several times per week from Reykjavik (KEF). Other airlines do fly into and out of the Faroes, but are far less reliable than Atlantic Airways.
-
Maybe. Reach out to us at the button above to connect with one of our Travel Designers and we can discuss.
-
Our adventure officially begins with dinner in Tórshavn the evening of September 5. If you arrive that day on Atlantic Airways flight from CPH arriving at 1:40pm, your airport transfer is included in the cost of the trip. Of course, you are welcome to spend a few additional days in the Faroes beforehand if you’d like.
-
Absolutely! We actually recommend adding a few nights in Copenhagen before and/or after your journey and would be happy to assist with planning that with and for you. Other destinations that pair nicely with the Faroes are Greenland and Iceland if you want an extended Nordics adventure!
“The Faroes possess a raw beauty that imprints onto the soul, impelling one to never forget.”
– Tóroddur Poulsen
