This week we are featuring a Seattle native. With her passion for community and wellness while outdoors she took on the task of visiting and then writing a book on the 500+ Seattle parks.
Linnea Westerlind is the author of Discovering Seattle Parks: A Local's Guide (published by Mountaineers Books 2017). In 2009 she started a project to visit all the parks in Seattle and write about them on her blog, www.yearofseattleparks.com, which is now a resource of nearly 500 city, regional and state parks. Linnea works in nonprofit communications and writes articles about parks and outdoor adventures for ParentMap magazine. She is also a co-founder of the new initiative Outdoor Childhood Puget Sound, to encourage families to spend more time outside. She lives in West Seattle with her husband and three sons.
She has researched and visited every single one of Seattle's more than 400 public parks. She shares the best and most interesting public spaces that you should not miss in her engaging talk. This fun presentation includes more than 30 photographs featured in her book to inspire you to get outside and explore Seattle's fantastic parks. Books will be available for purchase.
